Subject: Update Chapter 3.1 in the “Companion Guide to ASME B&PV Code” 4th Edition, Editor: K. R. Rao, Pub. ASME Press.
Dear Dr. Domenic A. Canonico:
In continuation to phone conversations with you on the above subject, I am honored to invite you to update the chapter you did for the initial subject publication. If the above address details are incorrect I request you to inform me immediately.
1. As I indicated to you, 4th edition follows the phenomenal success of the preceding three editions and the success is due to the dedication, knowledge and commitment to transfer contributor’s expertise to our contemporaries! The write-up of several chapters in this publication is based on several decades of contributor’s expertise and knowledge of ASME Codes that is captured in a few pages so that the readers can refer to ASME Codes for further details and specifics.
2. This “Companion Guide to the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes” has two volumes. These two volumes in the current 4th edition cover Sections I through XII of the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Codes and B31 Codes. A table of contents, listing of chapters names and addresses of the contributors appearing in the two volumes of this “Companion Guide Publication” are posted at the ASME funded web site www.krrao.com at web pages “Table of Contents 4th Ed” and “Manuscript Guidelines”. These would be useful in preparing the manuscript of your chapter. These can be opened using access codes Id = fourthedition; Pw = contributors. You need to use the exact alphanumeric without spaces.
3. Chapter # 3.1 which is titled “PART 2, Section II—Materials and Specifications: History of Materials” that was initially authored by you in the initial publication is the one I request you to update to the current ASME Code edition. I allocated a 10% increase in the number of pages covered in the 3rd edition. I hope you can cover the subject matter within these allocated pages, if not, you need to inform me ASAP.
4.1 To facilitate your updating, 3rd edition chapter 3.1 is located at the webpage PART 2: Sec II and subfolders 4th & 3rd Ed Chap 3 hoping this will be useful in preparing your chapter update. You can access this file using “ID”= ch3history and “PW”=dcanonico.
4.2 Also, web page folder “3rd Ed FM References” could be useful in preparing your manuscript that has subfolders (i) Table of Contents 3rd Ed, (b) Chap Introductions 3rd Ed, and (c) Contributor Bios 3rd Ed You can open and save the files at this location using ID = thirdedition; PW = tocintrobios. You need to use the exact alphanumeric without spaces.
5. To enable you update the chapter you can choose one of the following alternatives. Examples all of these alternatives are located at www.krrao.com at webpage folder “EXAMPLES FOR UPDATING” and can be opened with access codes Id = 4thedition and Pw = updating.
5.1 EXAMPLE 1: Download and save the chapter 1 and mark the changes in red ink and scan the pages and email them to me; this is the least preferable alternative since the notations can become ambiguous for copy editors to decipher them.
5.2 EXAMPLE 2: Download and save the chapter 1 and mark the changes labeling them sequentially as A, B, C, D and AA, BB, CC and so on. You can attach a word file identifying the changes as insertions A, B, C and so on against each of these labels. This is a preferred alternative.
5.3 EXAMPLE 3: If you have a pdf writer you can use the pdf writer to identify the changes which is the preferred alternative, if possible.
6. CONTINUING CONTRIBUTOR AGREEMENT MEMO for your chapter 3.1 is posted at the webpage PART 2: Sec II and subfolder 4th & 3rd Ed Chap 3 that can be opened with access Codes ID= ch3history and PW= dcanonico. A copy of this “INVITATION MEMO” is also posted at this site. Please sign the memo to update this chapter 3.1 and fax or email it to Mary Grace Stefanchik, Manager ASME Press whose address is given in the memo. Please follow this up with mailing the original signed sheet to Mary Grace Stefanchik.
Please email me a scanned copy of the memo for my records. Please note that your agreement is with ASME, whereas all correspondence will be with me.
Note that all files pertaining to this book from my end will be posted on the web site www.krrao.com where as you can send the files as attachment to the email from you to me. Please email me if you require any additional information.
Regards – KR
CC; Mary Grace Stefanchik, ASME Press.
